This class is moving to the virtual world temporarily due to the COVID19 pandemic. I’m not sure when we’ll be able to hold class in-person again at this point in time, but we’re excited to use this avenue to still keep connected and continue learning from afar. Hopefully your children and families are inspired to continue exploring concepts at home!
Here is the tentative plan for our year together, including months past. Log in and use the links associated with the months below to get to future lessons (we’re beginning with March). You will have the ability to comment within the lesson pages.
October – Herbal teas/remedies with elderberry as our herb of focus (learn about it and use it in a recipe)
November – Knitting (finger knitting, finger crocheting, and knitting with needles basics involving a choice of a couple beginner projects: washcloth or scarf) & planting winter herbs
**This month will require the child to bring their own supplies: knitting needles size 8, for wash cloth project 100% worsted weight yarn (Sugar ‘n Cream is an example brand), for scarf project simply a basic yarn of their choice (acrylic and non-chunky would work best, label will indicate using size 8 knitting needles)
December – Soap making, bath bombs (Great Christmas gifts!)
January – Making lip balm with pine as our herb of focus (learn about it, forage it, and use it in a recipe)
February – Nature crafts, bird feeders (suet cakes)
March – Maple syrup, baking, cheese-making bonus
May – Chickens for eggs (our chicks are due to ship 5/4)
There are so many other fun and exciting topics related to homesteading I’d love to do with the kids, but with meeting once a month, this is where we’ll start. 🙂
